All Fruits and vegetables in Sóller
Vegetables like peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, eggplants and onions are besides fish the basic ingredients of the Mediterranean Majorcan cuisine. In the Serra de Tramuntana, these kinds of vegetables are cultivated in the characteristic terraced beds on the steep mountain slopes, harvested and eventually sold at the regional weekly markets. Especially the “Ramallet” tomato plays a special role in Mallorca. For storage the tomatoes get braided in bundles into braids, which are then being hung to the roofs of the houses. Kept like this the tomatoes stay fresh for over nine months.
Also fruits, especially citrus fruits such as oranges, clementines, lemons and limes, thrive excellently in the sunny, mediterranean climate. Actually, the small town of Sóller owes its extensive and orange shining plantations its lovely nickname “Golden valley of the oranges”.
